Nepal becomes a Republic !

Nepal which until the recently was the only Hindu Kingdom in the world, is now neither Hindu nor a kingdom.
Elections were held in 2008 and in the poll results declared it was clear that the Maoists, under the leadership of Prachanda, ( People's Liberation Army (PLA), the military wing of CPN (M)) had captured power. They went on to declare Nepal a federal secular republic.

As a Hindu, I wonder what the pressing need was to turn secular. Of course, the conduct of the last monarch did not leave anybody in doubt as to whether Nepali citizens needed him as their ruler or not.

The economic and security repercussions on India remains to be analysed.
